Training

Training is a critical component to preparedness. The University offers and supports a wide variety of training opportunities that support emergency preparedness. This section outlines those opportunities and how to get involved.

This section does not cover every training opportunity offered to the University community. We frequently develop and conduct custom training for units that have specific requests and/or statutory requirements. Please contact either the Emergency Management or the University Police Department to discuss training ideas and requests.

The Safe Redbirds Ambassadors provide training by request to groups on campus. You can arrange training for your group via the Training and Simulations Interest Form. The trainings offered from Safe Redbirds Ambassadors include the following:

  • Escape the Nest ~ 1 hour

In this simulation, while helping clean out a late family member’s home who happened to be a passionate doomsday prepper, a tornado warning is issued, and players must get to safety. Each participant assumes an important community role. Participants work together to help their community through a natural disaster. (12, 16 or 20 participants)

  • Prepardy ~ 30 minutes

Test your expertise in different emergency preparedness topics in this competitive, answer-and-question format simulation. Not only is speed important, as you want to be the first team to hit the buzzer button, but also knowledge in safety as you receive points the more prompts you get correct. (3, 6, or 9 participants)

  • Survey Says ~ 30 minutes

How well do you know emergency preparedness? We surveyed faculty, staff, and students on campus to gather their best answers for safety and emergency preparedness topics.
