Safe Redbirds Ambassadors
What is the Safe Redbirds Ambassadors Program?
Illinois State University strives to provide a safe and welcoming campus environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The Safe Redbirds Ambassadors Program is an initiative of Emergency Management and Illinois State University Police Department, and partnering with other departments and organizations. The Safe Redbirds Ambassadors Program currently has three subprograms designed to create opportunities for students to seek professional development, engage in campus outreach, and participate in program development. The three subprograms are Safe Redbirds Connect, Safe Redbirds Walk, and Safe Redbirds Ready. Safe Redbird Ambassadors (SRAs) are student employee leaders serving as representatives of the Safe Redbirds Ambassadors Program. Ambassadors will be trained in multiple areas to become well rounded and successful student leaders.
Purpose Statement
Purpose: The purpose of the Safe Redbirds Ambassadors Program is to provide ISU students with direct access to safety and emergency preparedness information from fellow students and full-time employees. Peer education for the ISU community to foster a culture of preparedness and safety is the backbone of the program.
What do Safe Redbird Ambassadors do?
SRAs engage in many activities to help keep campus safe and engage with the student population. You will find SRAs helping to:
- Public Safety services during football game tailgates and parades
- Public Safety assistance during Move-In
- Provide safety education about crosswalks and Dismount Zones
- Complete evening safety patrols of campus including Safe Walks and checking on life-safety resources in campus buildings
- Deliver trainings and facilitate simulations to student groups and organizations to help educate and engage with fellow students on how to be safe and how to be prepared for emergencies
- Build a sense of trust and safety with the campus
